Artist EOI for Nimbin Toilet Block

Submissions have been reviewed by a panel of two Nimbin representatives and two Lismore City Council representatives.
With reviews finalised, Council representatives are working with shortlisted applications to select the successful artist.
The Nimbin Toilet Block is now scheduled to be open to the public after Easter. Following a recent period of heavy rain, surrounding landscaping was unable to be completed.
This time will allow the artist to get started, with a beautiful mural in development for the open.
Call for Local Nimbin Artists: Colour and Creativity needed for Nimbin Toilet Block
Are you a Nimbin artist with a passion for colour and creativity? Lismore City Council is excited to invite you to help transform the newly constructed Nimbin Toilet Block at Peace Park. We are looking for a local artists or a collaboration of artists to design and deliver stunning murals that will inspire and connect with our community.
About the Project
Thanks to funding support from the Department of Regional NSW, Lismore City Council is completing works on the $400,000 public toilet block at Peace Park in Nimbin. The toilet block is expected to be open to the public from Monday 7 April, 2025.
This much-anticipated facility was designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of users, and features an accessible toilet/changeroom with cold shower, and single toilet cubicle to service the skate park, playground, Nimbin Rainbow Walking Track and surrounding areas, as well as an accessible toilet/changeroom with cold shower to service Nimbin Pool users.
Accessible amenities at Nimbin Peace Park had long been called for by the Nimbin community due to its central location near the local pool, children’s playground, basketball courts and recreation area.
Scope of Expression Of Interest

- Mural Design
Create a vibrant mural for the outside walls of the toilet block. This artwork will greet visitors and users of the amenities, adding some welcoming colours to tie in with the surrounding facilities.
Artists are encouraged to consider a design that celebrates the natural greenery of the surrounds, and the recreational facilities the Nimbin Pool, Rainbow Walk and adjacent playground and skatepark.
The toilet block is constructed with Besser blocks, and will receive an initial seal coat. The whole surface is approximately 50sqm, being approximately 8 metres wide at the front and back, 2.7 metres wide on the sides and 2.4metres high. However per the concept image, there is no expectation for the whole building to be painted. Further information including exact specifications can be provided to applicants on request.
*The toilet block is scheduled to open during the first week of April. Artists are expected to be available between Friday 4 April - Friday 2 May, 2025 to complete the art work.
Application Process
Stage 1: Submit Your Expression of Interest
We want to hear your ideas! Submit your Expression of Interest online with the following:
- Previous Work: 3 examples of your past projects (images or videos).
- Vision and Ideas: Share your vision for the murals and how it aligns with the surrounding area.
- Budget: Provide an indicative budget, including a 20% contingency. Please note, the project team have based initial estimates on ~$100 per square metre, including paint and equipment costs, and have a limited budget for this artwork. Final budget available for this artwork will be determined by close of EOI.
Stage 2: Shortlist & Development
If your concept is shortlisted, you’ll receive support from the project team to further develop your ideas into detailed designs, technical plans, and cost estimates.
Stage 3: Final Selection
One artist or collaborative group will be chosen to complete their designs and bring the artworks to life at the agreed-upon costs.
