Consultation has concluded
Due to significant flood damage, Lismore City Council will close both sides of Dunoon Road between Dorroughby Road and Repentance Creek Road starting on Monday, 4 April.
The road is expected to be closed in a phased approach to accommodate the Easter long weekend where it will open up again with traffic lights for both directions. After Easter from Tuesday, 19 April the section of Dunoon Road will close again until 26 April.
What do the works involve?
Excavation of existing road surface down to access base of embankment.
Reconstruct embankment using rock and select fill.
Reconstruct pavement and seal.
Damage to the sealed pavement on the approaches will be repaired also.
When will the works start and what are the hours of work?
Works will start in the week commencing 4 April 2022. We expect the project will take about 6 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.
Work hours:
4th to 14th April 24-hour closure (working hours 6:30am to 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday)
15th to 25th April Single Lane track open under automated traffic lights
26th April to 22nd May 24-hour closure (working hours 6:30am to 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday)
No work Sundays or public holidays.
If there is a requirement to change these hours, you will be notified.
What are the traffic adjustments?
During the road closure period, traffic will be detoured via Repentance Creek Road (turns into Rosebank Road) and Dorroughby Road.
Electronic billboards will be displaying alerts for detours. Further details will be available on MyRoadInfo website.
What do I need to do?
Please obey the temporary traffic conditions in place and allow additional time for travel.
We apologise in advance for disruptions you may experience whilst we complete these works. We would appreciate your cooperation with all temporary traffic control and workplace protection measures onsite to help keep everyone safe.

During the 28 February natural disaster, Boomerang Creek at Dunoon Road over-topped the embankment causing significant damage on the downstream side.
Restoration of this section of the road was prioritised with emergency funding after the initial assessments by geotechnical engineers deemed the remaining embankment unsafe.
Transport for NSW works crew, under Council supervision, carefully reconstructed the embankment by using rock. It was a difficult project to manage due to environmental restraints, extended periods of wet weather and associated delays due to saturated pavement material.
We would like to thank the community for its patience with a long detour in place for the majority of the works.

Due to ongoing rain, the expected completion date of road works on Dunoon Road between Dorroughby and Repentance Creek roads has been extended until 15 May. Signage at the detour points will be updated to notify road users of the road closure.
Material from the quarry used to complete the works is too wet, resulting in slower transport. To ensure work continues effectively, our teams are completing other Dunoon Road surfacing works in the meantime.
The full works include the excavation of existing road surface down to access base of the embankment, reconstruction of the embankment using rock and select fill and reconstruction of the pavement and sealed pavement.
We apologise for the delay and thank the community for their patience at this time.
