Thank you to the 382 community members who submitted a survey response.

This feedback will be used to support the funding application, submitted by 30 September 2025.

Once submitted, Council must await the outcome of the funding application. This can take a matter of months, and if successful, it may still take 1-2 years before works will commence on the road.

Council will continue to engage with the community, and keep you informed throughout the funding and planning phases.

Temporary works on these road corridors will be undertaken in the meantime, to support traffic movements, and major events such as Primex, The Lismore Show and other ongoing community events.

Background:

Council has started assessments and preliminary scoping on sections of Dunoon Road, Tweed Street and Alexandra Parade, North Lismore.

In order to complete the mentioned upgrades, funding must be sought. Council is committed to applying for applicable grants for State and Federal funding to assist with the construction costs of the identified roads. At present these road upgrades are eligible under the ‘Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP)’ grant.

We asked for assistance from the community to complete a 5 minute survey, with the feedback providing essential information to support the grant applications. 382 submissions were made.

Proposed Upgrades:

The proposed project will upgrade Tweed Street from Terania Street intersection through to the second roundabout as part of the North Lismore Plateau development. Specifically, Tweed Street and Terania Street intersection to be upgraded; new shared path along Tweed Street; Tweed Street to be widened and upgraded; Lake Street entrance to be upgraded and sealed; Alexandra Parade/Tweed Street/Dunoon Road intersection to be upgraded with a roundabout; provisions for a future carpark on the south-west corner of Tweed Street / Alexandra Parade to be designed; Alexandra Parade to the viaduct upgrade – eastern side; Alexandra Parade to end of cattle sale yards to be upgraded and sealed; Dunoon Road to the second roundabout to be upgraded; Dunoon Road third roundabout and shared path along Dunoon Road.

Key takeaways:

We need your input - Community feedback is essential. Thank you to those who completed the short survey to help us prepare a strong funding application.

Significant funding is required - Rebuilding these roads requires major State and Federal support for materials and construction. Works can be completed in staged approaches now as funding becomes available. However, this is an opportunity to 'do it once, and do it well'.

The process takes time - Even with clear need, planning, funding approval, and project preparation, it can take 1-2 years before work begins.

We will keep consulting - Council will continue to engage with the community, and keep you informed throughout the funding and planning phases, and before any construction starts.

Next steps:

Council is preparing a submission for the funding application, due by 30 September 2025. This application will be supported by feedback the community has provided on the need for this upgrade.

Community will be notified if the funding application is successful.

In some cases, a road may receive temporary repairs until a permanent solution can be designed, and applicable funding be made available.

For reference, complete restoration/replacement of 1km of road can cost upwards of ~$1.3millon.
