Due to the essential remediation and clean up works within the vicinity of Council’s Wade Park Sewer Pump Station on Military Road, Council have now closed Thistle Soccer fields and Wade Park to the general public.

We thank the community for its patience and understanding as we continue this important work.

Our Rangers are now trying to re-unite owners of vehicles that have been impacted by the recent flood disaster.

Rangers will be taking the details of any vehicle that appears to have been left abandoned because of the flood and pass on those details to police who will then contact the owners.

Any flood affected vehicles that are impeding traffic and safe access to our streets will be relocated to a safe place.

A reminder that free bulk water is available from the Rous County Council fill point on Krauss Avenue, South Lismore – a ‘toggle’ is no longer required for access.

All bulk water carters must now use this facility. Drawing water from the reticulation network via standpipes can cause damage to the infrastructure and reduce supply/pressure.

A temporary waste storage facility will be set up in the John Crowther carpark off Dawson Street to speed up the removal of flood waste.

As the recovery efforts from Council, the State Government and Australian Defence Force ramp up, flood waste will be segregated and removed from streets, then transferred by small trucks (Skip bins and ADF trucks) to the temporary waste staging facility at the John Crowther carpark before being carted to the temporary regional transfer facilities at Alstonville and Coraki.

The waste staging facility will be operational from Monday, 21 March for approximately four weeks, with week-by-week assessments on waste volumes and overall clean-up operations. This facility aims to reduce truck turnaround times, speed up clean-up operations, reduce the number of trucks on the haulage routes and improve haulage rates to the temporary regional transfer facilities.

Over the coming weeks there will be a heavy increase in truck movement through Woodlark Street and Dawson Street to the transfer facilities. Please be cautious when entering/exiting these roads and maintain pedestrian safety in the area.

Recovery efforts will be ongoing until the clean-up is completed, and Council will continue to provide updates to the community throughout this time.

Roads across our entire local government area have had significant damage. Our crews are working hard to ensure our roads are safe, however, it will take time and we ask for the community’s patience.

The following is a snapshot of some of the most significant damage to our roads. We will keep the community updated on other road works we are undertaking.

Please always drive to conditions and follow all instructions. Roads are closed because they pose a serious danger to motorists and to reduce the risk of further damage.

Tuntable Falls Road – 2 x landslips cleared 3km from Gungas Road. Road has been cleared however works will be ongoing under traffic control (OPEN)

Terania Creek Road – Landslip approx. 8km from The Channon shop. An initial inspection has been carried out however will require further geotechnical investigation to determine the permanent solution (Local residents only – no heavy vehicles allowed)

Black Road – Causeway washed out. Temporary repair works underway (CLOSED)

Ross Road – Significant pavement damage. Temporary repair works will commence 23 March (CLOSED)

Wallace Road – Landslip approximately 1.2km from Tuntable Creek Road. An initial inspection has been carried out however will require further geotechnical investigation to determine the permanent solution (LOCAL RESIDENTS ONLY – NO HEAVY VEHICLES)

Koonorigan Road – Landslip approximately 500m from Nimbin Road. An initial inspection has been carried out however will require further geotechnical investigation to determine the permanent solution (CLOSED)

Keerong Road – Culvert washout near Dudgeon Road. Bridge design in progress (CLOSED)

Gungas Road (gravel) – Road significantly damaged, 4x4 access only. LCC roads and water crews are currently working with Defence Forces in this area (LOCAL RESIDENTS ONLY – 4x4 ACCESS)

Nimbin Road – Landslip between Stony Chute Road and Nimbin Town. Geotechnical investigation works have been complete (One lane closed)

Keerong Road, Pinchon Road and Keerong Bridge Road have had an emergency grade due to the expected increase in traffic. Further damages on these roads will be repaired at a later date

Mountain Top Road – Major landslip near 143 Mountain Top Road (CLOSED to through traffic)

Oakey Creek Road – Major landslips – (CLOSED – local residents access only)

These road closures and conditions are under regular review and will be updated accordingly. Over the coming weeks Lismore City Council will commence further Geotechnical Investigations which will involve drilling and in some areas the installation of geotechnical monitoring devices

The community organisation is calling for as many community members as possible to register as volunteers to help residents clean up.

It is also looking for people with a wide variety of skills and trades to register as a volunteer to assist.

They have a huge task ahead and volunteers might not arrive immediately, but Resilient Lismore is working as hard as it can to connect people with the help that is available.

Resilient Lismore also has tents set up at the Community Support Facility in the Harold Fredericks Carpark opposite Oakes Oval, and at the Bulk Foods building across the road at 119 Magellan St where a team member can help you log your requests.

Resilient Lismore is an entirely volunteer-run network that was created as a response to the 2017 flood.

They met with residents, volunteers, organisations involved in the flood response and recovery efforts, and local community groups.

A thank you was extended to CASPA, Koori Mail, Ngulingah LALC, Heartfelt House, NORWACS, Lismore City Council, the Lismore Flood Recovery and Evacuation Centres, and the Lifeline Community Distribution Centre. Extraordinary efforts in such challenging conditions.

The Governor and Mr Wilson are also visiting the Ballina area.

As flood waters recede, we are continuing to work with landholders, local council, contractors, and other government agencies to locate and safely rehome displaced or straying livestock.

Due to the sheer scale of these floods, it is very hard to predict where livestock will be found. You can help us rehome livestock by calling the Agriculture and Animal Services hotline immediately on 1800 814 647 if you come across stranded, lost or injured livestock.

Landholders can also request emergency fodder for livestock, animal assessment, veterinary advice and if required, euthanasia and burial using the hotline on 1800 814 647.

The Agriculture and Animal Services hotline operates from 8am-8pm, 7 days a week.
