The second High Schoolers Haven youth event at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre (GSAC) on Friday, 2 August 2024, was a great success. The event saw an attendance of approximately 60 attendees from Goonellabah and Lismore, doubling the number of participants from the inaugural event in July.

The event received substantial support from various organisations, including REDInc’s School Support Program, Nimbin Youth, the Richmond Police Youth Team, Rekindling the Spirit, and the Magpie Centre.

Participants engaged in various activities and workshops, including coaching sessions led by junior players from the Lismore Basketball Association and cooking with Tian Evans, founder of Sage Events. Other activities included the UV Groove Room, a Pop-Up Op Shop, and the RTRL (Richmond Tweed Regional Libraries) Chill Zone.

Local businesses played a significant role in the event's success. Smashed Avo and Goonellabah Domino's provided discounted catering, while Woolworths Goonellabah contributed gift card prizes.

Feedback from both attendees and their parents showed high levels of satisfaction, highlighting the event's benefits for social connections and its engaging nature.

High Schoolers Haven events are scheduled to occur on the first Friday of each month from July to November 2024. To ensure these events continue to be sustainable, enjoyable, and safe, community members interested in contributing are encouraged to complete a Supporters Application.

The next High Schoolers Haven event is planned for Friday, 6 September, from 4-7 PM at GSAC. For more information and applications: https://yoursay.lismore.nsw.gov.au/highschoolershaven
