Public Notice - Notification of Road Name Proposal

Section 162 of the Roads Act 1993 and Part 2 of the Roads Regulation 2018 - Ref: CDR22/1263

Notice is hereby given on 16 August 2024 that Lismore City Council as roads authority has named the following roads:

Proposed Name: Terence Chase

LGA: Lismore

Suburb/Address: GOONELLABAH

Description: Proposed road (Terence Chase) is a private road forming part of the proposed subdivision known as Platypus Park Estate. The private road is to commence off De Re Drive.

Name Origin: Named after the late Terence Arthur McMahon, born in 1933, attended South Gundurimba and South Lismore schools. Local dairy farmer and served in National Service before becoming a prominent auctioneer with Natt Gordon (now R Gordon and Son). Terence was a leading auctioneer in the region, a pioneering camp drafter, a life member of the Lismore Show Society, and actively involved in local hall committees.

Proposed Name: Matthew Crescent

Suburb/Address: GOONELLABAH

Description: Proposed road (Matthew Crescent) is a private road forming part of the proposed subdivision know as Platypus Park Estate. The private road adjoins the proposed Terence Chase within the Estate.

Name Origin: Named after the late Anthony Matthew Wood. Active member of the community who Came out from England around 1946 after the war where he served as an Aircraft Mechanic. Anthony later became an auto electrician. Even with his disability continued to work long hours to support his family.

Proposed Name: Leo Vista

Suburb/Address: GOONELLABAH

Description: The proposed road (Leo Vista) is a private road within the proposed subdivision of Lot 2 in DP 1287963, known as Platypus Park Estate. The private road forms part of the intersection of De Re Drive and Callune Terrace.

Name Origin: Named after Leo Terence McMahon - born in 1908 in South Gundurimba, as a dairy farmer he was deemed an essential worker during the war and thus exempt from military service. He assisted fellow farmers by milking their cows by hand during floods. A dedicated member of the Lismore Show Society, Leo was renowned for his skills as a Red Coat rider and Clerk of Course. He was also well-known for his horse expertise and actively involved in local community halls.

Proposed Name: Dougherty Place

LGA: Lismore

Suburb/Address: GOONELLABAH

Description: The proposed road (Dougherty Place) heads off the southern end of De Re Drive, with a cul-de-sac end.

Name Origin: Named after John Daniel Dougherty and family - arrived in 1908 from Ireland. Renowned for his Thoroughbreds, a pioneering figure in Northern Rivers horse racing, John used his winnings to buy a dairy farm near Coraki, complete with grand stables and training facilities.
