Consultation has concluded

Shine is a new light festival for Lismore taking place from August 19-22 in the heart of the city.

Shine will support artists to create strong, bold and curious works, for a program of contemporary light installations in Molesworth Street and Lismore's inner-city laneways.

We are calling for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from artists interested in being commissioned to create new and unexpected light installations ranging from small surprises to large projections that tell untold stories.

We are interested in diverse voices and hearing from both emerging and established artists. The program allows for these artists to use Shine as a platform to present experimental works in light.

We are looking for (but are not limited to):

  • Light installations/sculptures
  • Immersive and interactive experiences
  • Video/digital works
  • Projected visuals and mapping
  • Augmented/mixed reality
  • Site-specific responses
  • Works that tell Lismore stories and Indigenous stories
  • Works that engage specifically with kids
  • Community engagement in production or delivery

Artwork requirements

Potential locations for presentations include (but are not limited to): shop windows, arcade spaces, laneways, road surfaces, buildings, trees, parked cars, stairwells, and the sky.

The festival will support artists with access to power, rigging and installation approvals and onsite security as well as limited tech support and equipment over four nights. Details will require a discussion with the festival director.

EOI criteria

Proposals will be evaluated against the following criteria:

  • Creative approach
  • Audience engagement/experience
  • Strength and innovation of the concept, proposed approach and methodology
  • Response to the brief, site and festival context
  • Capacity to deliver the work
  • Budget

Successful artists will be expected to undertake project development from April to July.

Budget

For new works budgets of up to $10,000 per artwork will be considered. This must include an artist fee and costs associated with creating, delivering, installing and removing the artwork.

For existing works budgets of up to $10,000 per artwork will be considered. This must include an artist fee and costs associated with creating, delivering, installing and removing the artwork.

For existing video works there is an artist fee of $200 per work. All infrastructure and technology will be provided.

Expressions of Interest close on March 23. Please complete the online submission form below and ensure that all uploaded files are clearly labelled with your name.
