Consultation has concluded

Council has placed proposed amendments to its Code of Meeting Practice on public exhibition for 42 days for community feedback.

The Code of Meeting Practice, along with the related Practice Notes and the Councillor Briefings Policy, governs all aspects of how Council meetings are run.

These documents include guidelines of conduct and process for all meetings and briefings and provide important information including how you can gain access to your locally elected members.

These three documents have been redrafted and are now available for public exhibition and comment.

Some of the proposed changes include:

  • allocating up to 15 minutes for a ‘public forum’ session at the beginning of scheduled Councillor briefings. The public forum sessions would enable members of the public to gain access to and engage with their locally elected representatives;
  • allowing unlimited public access at ordinary and extraordinary Council meetings but reducing the speakers’ time from five minutes to three;
  • reducing the speaking time of Councillors from five minutes to three during Council meetings; and
  • providing greater guidance around the treatment of rescission motions.

The draft Code of Meeting Practice and accompanying documents are on public exhibition until 28 March 2018.

They can be viewed online in our Document Library or in hardcopy at our Corporate Centre, 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah.

Submissions can be made online, emailed to council@lismore.nsw.gov.au or sent to the General Manager, Lismore City Council, PO Box 23A, Lismore, NSW 2480.

Submissions must be received by 28 March 2018. For more information, phone Governance Coordinator Dianne Criss on 1300 87 83 87.
