Council has developed a draft Community Engagement Strategy as required by the NSW Government.

This strategy informs Council's engagement approach across the organisation and is accompanied by a Community Participation Plan which details how Council informs and notifies the community around planning functions.

These documents are requirements for Council under both the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 and Local Government Act 1993.

In addition to meeting these legislative requirements, the purpose of the draft Community Engagement Strategy is to:

  • Provide staff and Councillors with a strategy to guide Lismore City Council’s approach to informing and engaging with our community.

  • Use the strategy within Lismore City Council’s governance framework to promote best-practice community engagement within the whole organisation.

  • Provide a commitment to our community about how, what and when we inform and/or engage with them about Council business.

Council resolved at its ordinary meeting on 10 September 2019 to place the draft Community Engagement Strategy on public exhibition from 23 October until 20 November 2019.

The draft Community Engagement Strategy and Community Participation Plan can be viewed online in the Document Library to your right or in hardcopy at our Corporate Centre, 43 Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah.

Submissions can be made online below, emailed to council@lismore.nsw.gov.au or sent to the General Manager, Lismore City Council, PO Box 23A, Lismore, NSW 2480.
