*** This project is now complete. Eggins Lane is open to traffic and all works are finished. A photo of the finished lane can be found under photos and maps****

Lismore City Council is undertaking roadworks in Eggins Lane to improve the laneway for local businesses, motorists and pedestrians visiting the laneways precinct.

***Regular updates on progress are posted under the Community Updates tab below.

These roadworks involve reconstructing the entire length of Eggins Lane that runs parallel with Keen Street south from Larkin Lane.

The project will address long-standing drainage issues in Eggins Lane as well as improve the poor condition of the road surface. Work will include:

  • Removing old drainage infrastructure such as piping, inlet pits, kerb and gutter, and driveway gutter bridges.
  • Installing new underground roof-water connections, stormwater piping and inlet pits.
  • Reconstructing the road surface and sealing.

This project is funded by the Federal Government and has been brought forward to ensure these essential roadworks are completed prior to the commencement of the Lismore Laneways Project.

The Lismore Laneways Project includes beautification, art installations and amenity improvements such as new lighting and greenery for the inner-city laneways. Council decided to undertake the Eggins Lane roadworks prior to these improvements being implemented so that the entire precinct benefits from both projects and disruption to businesses is limited.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please ask our staff via the Q&A below or phone Project Manager Joe Lokic from BASEC Engineering on mobile number 0436 660 035.

This project is proudly funded by the Australian Government through its Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

  • Share Hi Jamie I am from Henry's Bakery Cafe 87 Keen St, Lismore. We are having major works being done on our premises throughout the month of February/March, and there will be some activity at times in the rear lane, during this time. AGS Commercial are managing this project for us. We have to close for 4 weeks and as such, it is really important AGS are able to manage their time as efficiently as possible - to minimise the closure time, so we can get back to business and cash flow. So, I would like that noted please and for the manager of the Council laneways project to be made aware of the fact. In addition, and more of a comment than a question - given the appearances of the CBD precinct between the 4 major streets, as a business owner I would think the streetscape at the front of the shops should be taking priority over the laneway network. Proper footpath paving has been proposed twice and failed. If one looks objectively at the Ballina main street since recent enhancements, and the streets around Lismore's CBD, Lismore as a precinct is falling way behind in appearances vs. Ballina and other rival towns, further adding to increasingly poor image and perception issues for the town, it seems. We are investing significant capital into our business with our renovations in Feb 2021, such is our optimism, however the CBD doesn't present very well, as a general observation. Whilst I like the Laneways initialtive, it would be good to see the main streets paved as the priority. on Facebook Share Hi Jamie I am from Henry's Bakery Cafe 87 Keen St, Lismore. Henry's asked over 3 years ago

Thanks so much for this feedback - Project Manager Jamie Blair will be in touch with all affected businesses throughout January to discuss your specific needs but this is a great heads up so that he knows he needs to carefully organise timing/schedules with you to accommodate this work.

Thanks so much and he will be in touch in the near future.
