Nimbin Artists Wanted
Lismore City Council is calling for Expressions of Interest from local Artists or a collaboration of Artists that have a strong connection with Nimbin to develop and deliver artwork within the general theme of Nimbin's Community, Culture and Country for the Nimbin Rainbow Road Walking Track.
About the Nimbin Rainbow Road Walking Track
The Nimbin Rainbow Road Walking Track is a community-led project that aims to construct a concrete and boardwalk track over 1km long for the active community of Nimbin and its visiting tourists.
The project includes: concrete pathways, lighting, interpretive signage, way-finding signage, artwork, small bridges erected over the nearby creek system, park furniture and native plantings.
The total budget of $2.5m is fully funded under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Package, which is co-funded by the Australian and NSW governments.
About the Project
The Artwork proposed for this project will be permanent and aims to complement the walking track, making it unique, inspiring, thought-provoking and attractive to the community and tourists alike.
The Curatorial Objectives are:
Community: to celebrate Nimbin's diverse and close-knit community, the people and their community spirit.
Culture: to celebrate all cultural aspects of Nimbin, from our First Nations to what we see today.
Country: to celebrate Nimbin and its landform, the native vegetation and unique animals.
Artwork Forms
The chosen ideas for the artwork may be selected from either one or multiple items below:
- Sculptures
- Seating
- Concrete Stencilling
- Artwork for Vinyl Prints for bins and drinking fountains
- Other forms as approved by the Council Project Manager
How to Apply
Artists and collectives are invited to submit an Expression of Interest via the online form below, which must include:
- Artist CV
- Examples of Previous Work
- Nimbin Rainbow Road Walking Track Ideas and Concepts
- Indicative Budget
The fee itemised by the Artist must include all research, investigations, concept design, professional artist fees, all production costs, installation, and insurance/s. All elements of the artwork project will be the responsibility of the Artist.
Artists from Nimbin and surrounding villages, or connections to, will be considered highly. A collaborative approach will also be considered highly.

A site walkthrough with Artists on Monday 8th May at 10:30am, meeting in the lower carpark behind the School of Arts building in Cullen Street. The walkthrough is not mandatory.
