Do you have a high-school aged child who would like to see the world?

Join our Student Exchange Program to Lismore's Sister City, Yamato Takada in Japan.

About the program

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Lismore and Yamato Takada.

The cultural friendship Lismore has shared with Yamato Takada is the oldest Sister City relationship in Australia, having signed the official agreement on 7 August, 1963. Since this time, both cities have enjoyed mutual student exchange visits, cultural and educational activities, tourism opportunities and visits between Mayors, Councillors and citizens.

The annual Sister City Student Exchange Program is an ongoing legacy of the agreement, enabling local high school students to get a taste of Japanese culture, cuisine and history on the annual 10-day exchange.

Unlike a tourist holiday, students stay with host families, visit local schools and even meet local dignitaries and the Mayor, giving them a unique insight into life in Yamato Takada.
