Mountain Top Road - Results of Survey & Decision

Council received 15 responses from Mountain Top/Jiggi residents to the feedback survey. This survey asked residents to let us know their preference regarding a proposed temporary road closure, from the following options.

Option 1 - Close the road completely between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday for approximately 4 weeks, with a detour of approximately 35 minutes in place. The road will be open after 5pm and before 7am. If we select this option, we will also work closely with the bus company to ensure that the school bus can get through.

Option 2 - Use traffic controllers to manage vehicular access through the works. At particular times, depending on the current work operation, traffic may be stopped for up to 20 minutes. This method of works is expected to take approximately 8 weeks.

Option 3 - Close the road completely for certain days whilst undertaking particular works, with a detour of approximately 35 minutes in place, notifying residents and commuters in advance via electronic signs at the side of the road. This method of works is expected to take approximately 6 weeks.

Of the 15 responses, 2 were in favour of Option 2 and the remaining 13 were in favour of Option 1.

3 of those 13 asked if the road closure timings could be shortened.

We are therefore going ahead with Option 1 and will let you know dates for closure when we have them.

It is difficult for our engineer and his teams to do what needs to be done with a shorter working day but as a compromise, it's been agreed that the closure times will be 7.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday for approximately 4 weeks.
