Mountain Top Road - Works Commencing 15 November

We notified residents in August that Transport for NSW (TfNSW) had approved funding to upgrade the sealed section of Mountain Top Road between Lodge Road and RH Smith Road.

We asked for feedback from residents to help Council decide on the best approach for the road closure. The majority of those who responded told us that their preference was for the option which involved closing the road completely between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday for approximately 4 weeks.

After some delays – mainly due to COVID and its impact on availability of contractors – we are now able to go ahead with the works and temporary road closure.

Detailed below is a brief summary of the proposed plan:

Undertake road works from 15 November

• Works will be undertaken from 6.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday with possible inclusion of Saturday should delays be encountered
• The road will be closed to through traffic from 7.30am to 4pm – a shorter closure each day than what was originally proposed
• Residents with properties along the restricted section will have access managed in consultation with site supervisor
• We will work with the bus company to ensure that the school bus can get through
• Works on road outside the full closure times will be managed under stop/go traffic control
• Road will be fully open after 6pm each night. However, speed restrictions will be in place due to loose gravel over unfinished works. Motorists need to SLOW DOWN please.
• The works include
  1. Replacing 7 pipe drainage crossings
  2. Constructing headwall structures on 16 culvert outlet and inlets
  3. Cleaning and reforming tables drains
  4. Installing rock checks to reduce velocity of stormwater in table drains
  5. Top up road surface with additional gravel where required to correct shape
  6. Stabilise overlayed material and existing surface with lime
  7. Spray seal road surface
• Works are expected to take 1 month to complete excepting any delays due to adverse weather conditions
