Lismore City Council is seeking expressions of interest from the community to become members of its Flood Risk Management Committee (FRMC).

What is the Flood Risk Management Committee?

The FRMC supports Council in implementing the recently adopted Flood Risk Management Plan. This plan outlines how Council will address and manage flood risk across the local government area.

Committee members contribute ideas, local knowledge and possible solutions to help Council manage flood risk more effectively. They play a crucial role in bridging the gap between Council and the broader community, providing input on a range of topics, from flood behaviour to education and initiatives for flood risk management.

The FRMC meets approximately four times a year, or as scheduled by the chairperson. Meetings are typically three hours long and held on weekday afternoons. The role is advisory, with the Committee reporting directly to Council.

Committee Members and Their Roles

As outlined in the Terms of Reference, the FRMC consists of Councillors, technical specialists from nominated organisations, and up to six community members. These members include:

  • 1 community member from North Lismore
  • 1 community member from South Lismore
  • 1 community member from any area (not geographically specific)
  • 1 First Nations community member
  • 1 community member representing local businesses
  • 1 community member representing environmental groups

Selection Criteria for Community Representatives

Community representatives are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Connection to the community: Demonstrated links to their geographic community or area of interest.
  • Awareness of flood risk management: Understanding of the issues related to flood risk management.
