This week, new water meters were installed for the section of Keen Street from Magellan Street to Suffolk Sports. These new meters are an upgrade, and will allow water readings via bluetooth in the future. We would like to make mention of the disruption to water access for a number of Keen Street businesses on Monday. Thank you for your patience while this important infrastructure was installed.

Upgrades have been made to the storm water pipes and power cabling in this section to provide improved infrastructure for the future. Works were also carried out to remove communications cabling from existing footpath concrete. This is a tricky process, involving a jackhammer to carefully remove the concrete and not cause disruptions to telephone and internet access for the street.

Unfortunately there have been a number of unforeseen challenges such as this, which have added time to the construction schedule. The Project Team’s decision to start construction in this first section as a trial run has proven useful in understanding the unseen infrastructure challenges. We would like to further acknowledge and thank the businesses in this first section.

Concrete pour commenced this week for this first section, with the finalised footpath to be accessible by Tuesday 9/8/2022. We are looking forward to finishing this work for all businesses in this section, and providing a finalised example for how the finished footpath will look.

Please keep in mind that public access to a number of businesses will be limited this week. Please check in with your local business if they are providing access via Eggins Lane.

Keen Street is accessible by road. Please keep in mind there is a small closed section near the Keen/Magellan Street roundabout. This closure will be in place Monday - Friday 7am - 4pm to allow heavy machinery access to complete works. This closure may be open intermittently. A U-Turn is provided adjacent to the Regional Gallery entrance for motorists to access all of Keen Street.
