What is a Planning Proposal?

A planning proposal is the document which sets out the justification and supporting information to allow changes to a Local Environmental Plan (LEP) to be made. LEPs provide the local statutory framework which guides development and land use decisions throughout NSW. They do this through zoning and development standards, which provide a framework for the way land can be developed and used. The local Council and the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure both assess a Planning Proposal to ensure the best outcome.

What changes are being proposed in this Planning Proposal (PP-2025-947)?

The primary change proposed in this Planning Proposal is to include additional permitted land uses in certain E4 General Industrial zoned land surrounding the rail corridor in South Lismore.  This will allow for appropriate commercial and cultural activities to support the Northern Rivers Rai trail and strengthen Lismore’s visitor economy and support revitalisation of the Lismore urban area.

When will the additional permitted land uses take effect?

The timeframe for the additional permitted land uses is expected to be finalised by late 2025.  This is subject to change.
