A new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Rous Road and Oliver Avenue to improve safety for road users. Funded by Transport for NSW under the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

Works are set to commence in early 2025.

Nearby residents can expect to receive a formal letter notifying them of the works within coming months, as supported through media announcements from Lismore City Council channels.

A safer intersection is on the way for Rous Road, following a number of accidents recorded over the past five years. These accidents have resulted in personal injury and major damages to vehicles, with this data identifying the need for safety upgrades under the Australian Government Black Spot Program.

Works include:

  • Upgrading the existing roundabout to a standard size
  • Install pedestrian refuges with fencing
  • Remove sight distance restrictions - large tree management, and change of entry/exit points for the Uniting Caroona Marima Care Facility
  • Signs and line marking
  • Improved street lighting
  • Vegetation management

Additionally, Council is investigating the option for a small roundabout at the intersection of Rous Road and Reserve Street. This will act as a traffic calming device and assist with traffic flows to support the new child care centre currently in construction and both the existing tennis courts and soccer fields. This will also include pedestrian refuges and concrete medians to improve road safety.

These works are scheduled to start early 2025, with updates available on this page once scheduled. Nearby affected residents will also receive works notifications to their letterbox, and roadside signage will be in place for road users.

An onsite community consultation to discuss the works and potential impacts to nearby residents is being scheduled. Further details will be shared across Council channels shortly.
