What is the project all about?
The project involves removal of 410,000m³ of material from a 58 hectare area of Lismore City Council owned land, adjacent to Caniaba Street, South Lismore. The material removed will be used to fill nearby land with existing development consent.
What are the benefits?
Flood modeling conducted by Worley Parsons in 2016 suggests peak water levels in North Lismore, South Lismore and the CBD will be reduced by as much as 100mm for the 1 in 100 year event. The modelling considers both the extraction of the material and its placement on approved development sites in the South Lismore industrial estate.
By using the material from the excavation site to fill industrial land within Lismore’s floodplain, we will facilitate new businesses and help drive economic growth in Lismore for years to come.
How is it funded?
The project is funded by way of an $8.2M grant from the NSW State Government.
When will it begin and how long will it take?
The physical construction is expected to commence early in the 2019-20 financial year and is anticipated to take approximately 12 months to complete.
Who is managing the project?
NSW Public Works Advisory have been engaged on behalf of Lismore City Council to manage the construction of the project.
