Map of Uralba Street Roadworks showing road closure and phases

***These works are now complete and Uralba Street, between Diadem and Brewster Streets has re-opened. See further information under 'Community Updates' below *****

Council plans to reconstruct a section of Uralba Street between Diadem and Brewster Streets. The roadworks are expected to take 5-6 weeks to complete (subject to fine weather) and are planned to commence in late June/early July 2021.

These planned roadworks are jointly funded by the Australian Government in Association with the NSW Government and Lismore City Council under the Fixing Local Roads Program. This program provides funding to Councils to assist in reducing the local roads maintenance backlog.

The works are to be completed in two phases. This will ensure Coles supermarket is not negatively impacted by the works and can receive trucks and goods during the construction period. These phases are shown in the map on the right hand side of this project page.

Local access to residences will also be maintained by Council during the construction period.

The roadworks will include the rehabilitation and resurfacing of the current road which will then be finished with an asphalt seal. Asphalt has been chosen due to its durability, longevity and the speed at which it can be placed.

Our hours of work will generally be 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday and may also include some Saturdays to complete the work efficiently.

A temporary road closure and detours will be in place as we work along Uralba Street, between Diadem and Brewster Streets.

Please see our onsite electronic message boards for more information or keep an eye on the Community Updates below. You can also ask us a question below at any time and we will get a staff member to respond as soon as possible.

Why is LCC carrying out two upgrades parallel to each other at the same time?

A member of the community asked why we carry out road upgrades that are close together at the same time and we now have a response from one of our engineers who said:

Key reasons for running  these 2 projects at the same time:

    1. Sharing of internal resources including plant and labour
    2. Sharing of subcontractors – LCC will look to use major subcontractors during the same mobilisation meaning reduced cost.
    3. If one project experiences any downtime (subcontractors carrying out work, waiting for test results etc.) the crews can be used on the other project.

The road closures of Uralba and New Ballina Road are considered relatively low impact to the community with the detour likely to be less than < 2 mins. So it is thought that the benefits outlined above outweigh the negatives.

  • Share I welcome this vital upgrade to one of lismore's most trafficked streets. My question is: why does LCC seem to need to run its upgrades in dysfunctional parallel? LCC is also upgrading New Ballina Road - running, as it does, parallel to Uralba Street. Not a strategy I - or anyone else I know - would willingly adopt. on Facebook Share I welcome this vital upgrade to one of lismore's most trafficked streets. Good morning,  thanks for your feedback which will be passed on to the relevant staff members. Please have a look at the "Improving Your Roads" page on this site as it provides insight into the challenges Council faces in repairing such a large network with inadequate funding, as well as providing you with data on progress and information on our approach.

Will I be able to use the veterinary clinic in Uralba Street, Lismore?

daughterofronny asked almost 3 years ago

Good morning, yes, you will be able to use the vet clinic in Uralba Street. Council staff have been meeting with the vet clinic and there will be electronic signs to let people know how to access the vet clinic during the roadworks. Access will be via the laneway next to McDonalds. I will add the vehicle movement plan to the project page today. Thanks for asking the question.
