October 2023 Update

Parklets in new places

Lismore City Council’s Parklets have returned to the CBD in two new temporary sites, where they can be found for approximately 6 months from 27 October 2023.

The Parklets provide appealing and temporary spaces for pedestrians to sit and connect in Lismore, and will soon have shade sails installed. The two new Parklet spots are:

• 46 Magellan Street, hosted by the Lismore Regional Gallery Popup

• 44 Carrington Street, in proximity to food retailers and hosted by Lismore Central Shopping Centre.

We have relaunched the CBD parklet feedback survey so please let us know what you think. Click here to complete the survey.

Along with feedback from businesses and organisations in the vicinity, these locations have been chosen to foster connection between activation, retail and business spaces within the city centre, while minimising impact to loading bays, pedestrian egress, support good vehicle visibility, and not impacting any essential service infrastructure (hydrants etc).

For further information about Parklets and how local businesses and organisations can ‘host’ them, please see Guidelines under ‘P’ here www.lismore.nsw.gov.au/Council/About-Council/Policies-A-Z.

The Parklets were funded through a NSW Government grant to help make Lismore CBD more pedestrian-friendly during COVID recovery.

We are also looking at ways to activate, evaluate and demonstrate economic value of these multi-purpose spaces, as part of the Lismore Business Activation Plan. You can find out more about the new draft Business Activation Plan here. For more information please contact CBD Activation Officer Kathryn Gray, by emailing business@lismore.nsw.gov.au or phone

    May 2021 Update

To add new shade sails, Lismore parklets will be moved temporarily from the CBD in the week starting 24 May 2021. The new parklet shading addresses community feedback and is funded through a NSW Government grant to help make Lismore CBD more pedestrian-friendly during COVID recovery. We are also assessing accessibility upgrades, and planning new locations and dates for the parklets to help activate business centre spaces.

    March 2021 Update

Thank you very much for responding to the CBD parklets survey. We received 112 responses to the survey and the responses were very mixed. Just over half of the respondents were ‘happy’ or ‘very happy’ with the parklets (50.4 %) in contrast, 40.5% were ‘very unhappy’ or ‘unhappy’. The remaining 9% of respondents felt neutral about the parklets.

The main feedback we received about improving the parklets was that they were too hot and had accessibility issues. To address these concerns, we are currently investigating how we can provide shade over the parklets and improve their accessibility for everyone to enjoy. We also plan to continue trialling the parklets over the year by moving them to two new locations in the CBD, in consultation with nearby businesses. Parklets are also being considered in light of the new Business Activation Plan in development. While this survey has now concluded, you can contact our CBD Activation Officer Kathryn Gray on 1300 87 83 87 for more information.

    Background

Lismore City Council has installed 'parklets' in Keen Street and Molesworth Street in the Lismore CBD. You might be reading this while sitting in one!

These temporary parklets were funded through a NSW Government grant to help make Lismore CBD more pedestrian friendly during COVID recovery.

We are keen to know: What do you think? Should we keep these parklets permanently? Move them around the CBD? How could they be changed or improved?

Please complete the short survey below. Your feedback will help to decide the future of the CBD parklets.

    Thank you!
