Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022 - 2026
Lismore City Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) is a four year framework created in consultation with the community. The document outlines the key strategies and actions to be delivered by Council in its commitment to disability access and inclusion within the Lismore Local Government Area (LGA).
This plan sets out a series of principles, strategies and actions that will guide Council operations over the next four years. These align with the principles of the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, as well as the NSW Government's Disability Inclusion Plan that specifies four focus areas:
1. Positive Community Attitudes and Behaviour
2. Liveable Communities
3. Supporting Access to Meaningful Employment
4. Accessible to Systems and Processes
Lismore Floods 2022
The Lismore Local Government Area, together with large parts of northern NSW and southern QLD, were impacted by unprecedented flooding events during February and March 2022. These floods have had devastating impacts across the community, with lives lost, homes and businesses destroyed and critical infrastructure sustaining major damage.
Lismore City Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan was being prepared prior to this event, with community consultation completed. We received feedback from over 200 people including people with disability, carers, disability service providers and advocacy groups.
Lismore City Council is required to have a new DIAP in place by July 2022, consequently there is insufficient time to undertake a new consultation process and prepare a new Plan to reflect the impact of that event on our community.

The draft plan is now on public exhibition and people will have the opportunity to provide feedback before we ask Council to adopt it.
