Council is working closely with Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) who are providing funding to repair a number areas that were damaged in the flood events that occurred in December 2020 and March 2021, in rural locations around Nimbin and other villages.

Even though you may not see activity on the ground at the moment, there is progress being made on a number of complex flood remediation projects.

When we experience a natural disaster such as a flood event, which causes significant damage to our infrastructure, there are a number of steps that Council has to go through, which is basically like an insurance claim process. Council has to identify, assess and then make a claim for the damage from the appropriate funding body, as we do not have the money to pay for these kind of extraordinary events from our day to day budgets. in the 2020/21 financial year, Council has claimed in excess of $5.6 million in relation to flood events.

The table below provides some basic details on the status of these projects. Eight projects have confirmed funding and a proposal that has been approved by TfNSW. The estimated total value of this confirmed funding is $6,456,000. Construction on most of these projects is expected to commence in 2022. Council is currently in negotiations with TfNSW on another four projects.

When is Haywood Lane causeway likely to be repaired please? The funding is approved and given , the surveying done and marked, so what happens next.?

Bethel asked over 1 year ago

The crossing at Haywood Lane has been designed, and the culvert structures are undergoing procurement.

This work has been delayed due to the February 2022 natural disaster, where Council was required to direct resources for emergency works.

Pending lead time on the recast culverts, this replacement is expected to be undertaken in April next year.

Hi, regarding sections of Nimbin Rd, particularly from Hayden Rd onwards to the Goolmangar school area, and the Haziko letterbox area, and the section coming up to Smiths Bridge, Lismore side but on both sides of road. It will be 2 weeks ago tomorrow that I rang and reported these dangerous unsafe sections. My reference number is 7864. I understand council has a huge road infrastructure to look after, but Nimbin Rd has become a very busy main road and with lots of traffic and heavy vehicles using it too as you are aware. I get anxiety and stressed out driving in the day, like many ppl do. And I will not drive it at nite cause of the horrid vehicle damaging potholes. I’m not the only one who will not use it at night. It’s pretty dismal when the state of a road prevents ppl from going out to an event in Lismore because of the road. Can you please fill the potholes as a priority ? I’m amazed an accident hasn’t occurred cause so many of us swerve to miss the many holes. It’s so unsafe. Thanks to the lovely person/ppl who spray paint some...there’s too many holes for them to spray... These areas need urgent attention to keep ppl safe and free of stress and anxiety. Marie Cameron

Hi Marie, thanks for following up. I have talked to the Coordinator of Roads Maintenance and I am told that this section of Nimbin Road will be patched on Wednesday/Thursday of this week.

What's happening with Mountain Top Road?

Council is in the final stages of negotiation with TfNSW for funding of the permanent repairs for the damaged sections of Mountain Top Road, Mountain Top. If funding is confirmed, those works will require further design details and planning before work can start which will not be before September 2021. Recent inspections of this section of road have identified further deterioration in the road surface since last inspection, and there is a need for temporary pothole repairs to ensure the road is safe and remains trafficable in the short term. These temporary repairs will not get to all the potholes on this section, but will at least ensure better access until permanent repairs are confirmed.

It says above Re-Mtn Top Rd That temporary patching maintenance works will continue etc etc. Well, hello, there hasn’t been any temporary patching maintenance done at all. Not since February of last year.. So this is very false and misleading information... It needs priority patch work done now....ASAP Marie Cameron

Marie Cameron asked over 2 years ago

Hi Marie, thanks for your feedback. Council maintenance records suggest that Mountain Top Road was last patched on 18 January 2021. Now that we are in a new financial year, we have money in the budget to do more patching there. Mountain Top Road will be patched again by the end of next week - 16 July - maybe sooner, depending on the weather.

Have you all forgotten about the land slip on the shoulder of the Caniaba cutting?

Steven Tomlinson asked over 2 years ago

Hi Steven, thanks for asking this question. I am pleased to be able to confirm that TfNSW has recently approved funding for this. We are now able to move forward with the geotechnical investigations that help us to determine the design to fix this issue. In hindsight, we should have included this in the list on this project page and it will now be added.
