14 May 2021 Update

The closed section of Rock Valley Road, about 500m south of Boggumbil Road, re-opened today after reconstruction of this section of road due to an earlier collapse of the road’s embankment.
Major reconstruction work was needed to fix the 300m section, including removing the existing road surface and embankment, and significant earthwork to replace the road with new gravel and a bitumen seal, as well as reconstructing the embankment. Check out photos of the roadworks here.
The road was closed between Rosehill Road and Boggumbil Road during the reconstruction works.
We thank the community, and in particular local residents, for your patience during this major reconstruction project.

Background

Lismore City Council is repairing a section of Rock Valley Road, approximately 500m south of Boggumbil Road, where the embankment has failed.

This project will require a section of Rock Valley Road to be closed to traffic for at least eight weeks. A detour will be established for commuters.

Residents whose properties are located within the closed section of Rock Valley Road will continue to have local access to their properties during this time.

What are the works?

The roadworks comprise reconstruction of a 300m section of failed embankment. This includes the following:

  • Clearing of vegetation and trees adjacent to the embankment failure
  • Excavation and removal of the existing road surface and embankment material
  • Reconstruction of the embankment
  • Road surface construction – gravel placement
  • Road surface construction – bitumen seal
  • Signage and line marking

When are the works taking place?

Works are expected to begin in late February and take eight weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions.

Work hours will be as follows:

  • 6am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • 8am to 1pm on Saturdays (when required).
  • No work Sundays or public holidays.

If there is a requirement to change these hours, residents will be notified.

What are the traffic adjustments?

During construction, Rock Valley Road will be closed between Rosehill Road and Boggumbil Road for the duration of the works. Local traffic access will be retained for residents that live between Rosehill Road and Boggumbil Road.

All other traffic will be detoured around the site via Rosehill Road, Nimbin Road, Jiggi Road and Boggumbil Road (see detour map).

Please commute through the detour at low speed, obey adjusted speed limits and directions from any traffic controllers, and drive carefully. We will ensure all driveways and farm gates that intersect the road match any changes to the road profile and are safe for property owners/residents.

At times the roadworks may create dust, which will be managed by a water cart during work hours.

Hi. Wondering if Boggumbil Rd will be graded and kept graded and watered during these roadworks.

Marty asked almost 4 years ago

Hi Marty, we are planning to undertake grading works and keep the road graded as needed throughout the project. There will be higher traffic volumes so we are aware maintenance will be required. We will also use the water cart to keep dust down as the project progresses.
