This project is now complete. Thank you for your interest and patience while these essential roadworks took place.

Roadworks will be taking place along Blue Knob Road, Nimbin, from April 2020.

Council will repair a 600m section of the road between Salkeld Road and Suffolk Bridge including road widening and road re-shaping to fix a dangerous corner.

This work is funded by Transport for NSW through its NSW Safer Roads Program.

Council will be removing several remnant trees and a stand of eucalypt forest to facilitate these works. A Review of Environmental Factors determined that the proposal would not significantly impact on wildlife or habitat, however Council still plans to undertake compensatory planting works to offset the removal of these trees.

As well as the road being realigned and reconstructed, drainage will be upgraded and there will be new kerb and gutter, line marking and signage.

Things you need to know...

  • Traffic flow will be disrupted.
  • We will ensure all driveways and farm gates that intersect the road match any changes to the road profile. Residents will be contacted should driveway/access need modification. We will also do maintenance to roadside drainage as needed.
  • There may be periods of dust and noise. We will have a water carter on-site to try and mitigate dust.

What hours will work take place?

  • 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • 8am to 1pm on Saturdays (only if required).
  • No work Sundays or public holidays.

If there is a requirement to change these hours and do works on Sunday, you will be notified.

Roadworks are progressing well on repairs at Blue Knob Road, Nimbin, with work expected to be complete by mid-September.

Council is close to finishing several major components of the project with works such as tree removal and the bulk of drainage now complete. Around half of the major earthworks to prepare for the new road material are also finished.

The final and more visible stages of the project will take shape over the next six weeks. This includes the final kerb and gutter as well as placing the new base material on the road, adjusting the height of the road, road sealing, signage and line marking.

There have been minimal wet weather delays during this project (touch wood!) and we would like to thank residents for your patience as these essential roadworks continue.

If you have any questions regarding the project you can contact Project Manager Luke Wakefield directly on 1300 87 83 87 or email luke.wakefield@lismore.nsw.gov.au.

Tree removal will begin from 20 April and take around one week.

We need to remove trees and other vegetation in order to undertake road widening and completely re-shape the road to fix a dangerous corner.

We will undertake replanting works with natives to offset the removal of these tree.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and motorists are urged to follow traffic control advice.
