Works are scheduled for Wednesday, January 10 - Friday January 12 to get started on shade sail installation for the Tiny Tots playground. During this time, the Tiny Tots playground will be closed. All other aspects of the park including water play, train and other equipment will be accessible.

Concreting will be completed early morning to avoid disruptions to playtime. Plinths will then be installed (surrounded by safety fencing) in preparation for shade sail installation.

The train carriage is coming back better than ever!

Following a bright new paint job and structural improvements, the train carriage will become a brand new interactive space at Heritage Park.

Featuring power points, new internal layout, new lockable double swinging doors, window replacements and improved flood resilience. More details will be shared shortly about how the community can use this space.

This upgrade has commenced in November 2023. Keep your eye out for ongoing works and to watch this transformation unfold.

Following the recent completion of the new pathway in Heritage Park, further upgrades have been carried out to improve the park’s drainage system.

At the Northern end of the park, the rocks located beside the pathway have been removed, allowing for more drainage to be installed and sandstone seating to be placed.

In the coming months, we plan to install a seven-meter-high 'Adventure Tower' in this area, designed for older children. The tower will have wheelchair-accessible bridges, ensuring everyone can enjoy this exciting new feature.

Additionally, decorative shade sails will be installed over the existing carousel and the tiny tots area.

We will keep you updated as the project progresses.

  • Project Update - February 2021

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas with us about what other improvements you'd like to see at Heritage Park.

We were really pleased with the response and we received over 80 wonderful ideas of how we can improve the park.

Some of the most popular contributions included:

    • Installing more shade over the new Tiny Tots playground and water play area.
    • Installing change rooms and toilets in the park.
    • Turning the railway carriage into a cafe.
    • Building a playground for older kids to enjoy.
    • Planting more native and sensory gardens.

    Next steps

Our next job is to investigate your ideas and how much they will cost. Once we have a fully scoped and costed project, we will identify suitable grants to apply for. Please bear with us as this may take up to 12 months to complete.

There is funding already to install a footpath that will link Lismore City Hall to the Wilsons River through Heritage Park. This footpath will help to make the park more accessible and safer. We'll keep you updated on this project as it progresses.

In the meantime, please continue to enjoy Heritage Park and thank you once again for participating in this project.

Heritage Park has recently undergone a $500,000 makeover and is open again for Lismore's community to enjoy. The makeover was the first stage of the park's redevelopment and includes a water play area and new tiny tots playground. Council is now planning the second stage of the park's upgrade and would like to invite the community to have their say.

Get involved by telling us your ideas

    • What other play equipment would you like to see at Heritage Park?
    • How can we make Heritage Park more accessible?
    • How could we upgrade some of the park's existing facilities?
    • Any other ideas you have.

Council will use the feedback to assist with planning the next stage of the park's redevelopment and applying for state and federal government funding to complete the work.

This consultation will be open until 22 January 2021.
