Unfortunately ongoing wet weather is affecting the works taking place in Diadem Street.
Council’s contractor Eire Constructions will delay major roadworks until such time as they can confidently forecast at least five consecutive days with no rain. At present, the forecast is not looking good.
This timeframe is essential to facilitate the uninterrupted reconstruction of the road, which includes:
- Ripping up the existing road.
- ‘Stabilising’ the natural ground beneath with lime – this improves its strength and requires two days of ‘curing time’ before the subsequent gravel layer can be placed.
- Re-spreading, cement stabilising and compacting the new road base (gravel layer).
If we get caught be weather mid-way through this process, it will create safety issues and result in delays, rework and disruptions to property access.
At present, the BOM is showing ongoing rain and the possibility of another east coast low in early March.
While we wait for dry weather, the contractor will complete what work they can, including the installation of sub-soil drains, which will help if rain continues.
We are very sorry for this ongoing wet weather delay. We hope residents can understand that it is better to wait and do the works efficiently once it is dry rather than go ahead while the weather is not good.
Thank you for your understanding and patience – once we have the all-clear to go ahead, we will be in touch.

Thank you
to everyone who attended our Community Coffee Cart information session on 16
January in Diadem Street – it was great to speak face-to-face with residents
about the project.
For those
who couldn’t make it, some of the key talking points were as follows:
Eire Constructions Pty Ltd has
been appointed as the contractor undertaking roadworks.
The extent of work is constrained to repairing the existing
road and widening the road by about 2.5m on each side to facilitate on-street,
parallel parking.
- Eire anticipate starting in early February. Work will take
approximately six weeks.
- Sections of the road will be closed to through traffic at
times, but the contractor will work with residents to ensure access to
properties where possible.
- The contractor will also arrange for bin collections as
required. Residents should place their bins outside their house on their normal
collection day and the contractor will move them to a central location and
return. A number may be temporarily drawn on the bins with chalk to
differentiate.
- Some residents we spoke to had specific requests regarding
personal driveway access. The scope of works does not extend to driveways
however residents with any specific requests are welcome to get in contact with
the Project Manager, Aaron Hoffman to discuss options. If considered
appropriate, Council may be able to provide a quote for the additional work to
be completed as part of the project.

Dilapidation Surveys: 13 to 28 January
Pre-construction dilapidation surveys are required to be undertaken. This work will be conducted by East Coast Building Consultants from Monday, 13 January to Tuesday, 28 January.
Please contact them using the details below at your earliest convenience to arrange the best time for an inspection of your residence.
The dilapidation surveys are an important step of the construction process and involve a visual inspection of the internal and external of your building/s by a qualified consultant with photos and notes taken and complied into a report. An identical exercise will also occur post-construction so that in the unlikely event of damage occurring during construction, comparisons can be made, and any issues can be rectified. Copies of the report will be made available to property owners on request.
Residents are encouraged to work with the consultant to improve the level of detail in the report for their property. If internal access is not granted, the resident is not at home on the survey day, or the Consultant hasn’t been contacted, only an external survey will be conducted.

Free Community Coffee Cart: 16 January
Lismore City Council and Eire Constructions are hosting a Community Coffee Cart information session on Thursday, 16 January so local residents can ask questions about the project.
Topics we aim to cover include:
1. Overview of the design – what are we planning to build?
2. Construction methodology – how are we planning to build it? What impacts will this have on me?
3. Construction timeframes – how long will I be affected?
4. Traffic management & disruptions.
5. Key contacts during the works.
Come and enjoy a free morning coffee between 7.30am and 9am and bring along your questions. If you can’t make it, please don’t worry – we will continue to send detailed Community Updates to all residents throughout the project.
