Contractors require a full road closure between Rose Road and Beardow Road from 8:00am to 3:00pm due to geotechnical testing and monitoring.

Industry Briefing Event

Lismore City Council invites suitably qualified and experienced organisations to attend an industry briefing to provide an overview for selection of a Managing Contractor to deliver flood restoration works on roads and bridges.

This briefing session provides an overview of the selection process for the Roads and Bridges Recovery Program. Attendance is not mandatory to submit a conforming tender however, companies are encouraged to attend to learn more about the project prior to tender being advertised. Light refreshments and networking available at the conclusion of the presentation.

The event will be held at 10am on Monday the 15^th of May 2023 at Southern Cross University Lismore, U-Block in Room U2.31. An overview of the campus has been provided below.

Following the February 2022 natural disaster, Crofton Road suffered extensive pavement and drainage damage. Works will begin from 4 April 2023 for culvert pipe replacement work. The works are planned for two days on 4 and 5 April 2023, subject to weather, contractor and material availability.

For the safety of motorists and due to the nature of the works, a hard road closure is required between 7am and 5pm around the site, with the road being re-opened outside of these hours. Access for pedestrians will be maintained via a side track throughout the works. Drivers are asked to park their vehicles on the other side of the culvert and walk to their side to access their property. Please review the road closure location below.

Please obey adjusted speed limits and directions from any traffic controllers and drive carefully. Please adhere to all road closed signs. We will ensure all driveway and farm gates that intersect the road match any changes to the road profile and are safe for property owners/residents.

Waste services will not be affected by this closure.

During the February 2022 natural disaster, the northern abutment of Simes Bridge on Whian Whian Road was impacted. Temporary works were carried out to restore access and the site is currently limited to one-lane traffic access under a give-way arrangement.

The one-lane access will remain to ensure road user safety until potential scope for works for permanent repairs is finalised. Roadside signage is currently in place to notify road users of any changes in traffic conditions. No impact to the Whian Whian Falls access is expected during the works.

The road is currently undergoing monitoring and geotechnical investigations which is required for potential permanent remediation. The works involved detailed site survey and bridge substruction assessment with minimal impact to traffic expected during these survey works. Additionally, these works require geotechnical investigations involving standard penetration test (SPT) analysis at the northern bridge abutment.

Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements have been secured to complete these works. This funding is allocated to address damage sustained during the February 2022 flooding event only. Additional works required and subsequent funding are being reviewed. Road users are advised to follow signage and expect minor delays as these works are completed.

Tuntable Creek Road - Road Closure

Contractors require a full road closure between Rose Road and Beardow Road from 8:00am to 3:00pm due to geotechnical testing and monitoring.

Tuntable Creek Road experienced significant damage during the February 2022 natural disaster with 11 notable landslips recorded and a major landslip closing the road north of intersection with Rose Road. A temporary solution was designed to open the road and establish connectivity between Nimbin and The Channon while the permanent solution is designed. The temporary construction consists of stabilising the embankment below the road and excavating into the slope above the road to make a single trafficable lane. The stabilisation used up to 160 8m long soil nails and over 400m2 of sprayed concrete. Additionally, a temporary pavement was constructed through the slip zone and installing light traffic control.

Due to the volatile nature of the landslip and risks of further damages occurring a detailed risk assessment was undertaken to control access until a permanent solution is implemented. The risk assessment requires weekly visual monitoring, survey monitoring of fixed control points and monthly inspections by a geotechnical engineer. Restrictions will be placed on the temporary access road during large rain events to mitigate risks to public. Should the road be closed due to adverse weather, VMS boards placed at The Channon and Nimbin will identify the road closure. Facebook updates will also communicate the closure to the wider community. Please report hazards or changes to Lismore City Council using reference LCC92.

Following the AGRN943 2020 natural disaster the Mackie Road causeway at Johnston Creek suffered extensive damage. Funding has been awarded to replace the damaged structure with a bridge to reduce impediments to fish passage.

The Mackie Road culvert to bridge replacement at Johnston Creek, works are currently underway with successful delivery of the bridge to our storage yard. The works will begin on Monday the 13^th of March 2023 with project operating for approximately three months with a planned completion in late June 2023, subject to fine weather. Due to the nature of the works a full 24-hour hard road closure is required during the March to June 2023 works period around the location detailed on the map below. COMPLETED WORKS

Cawongla Road

The Cawongla Road pipes’ replacement project was ahead of schedule and the road opened at the end of January before school started. The works consisted of replacing two culverts that suffered significant damage during the 2022 floods.

Gwynne Road

Temporary repair of damaged pavement was recently completed for Gwynne Road. During these works, the crews also performed scour repair and mulching vegetation along with cleaning drains and pipes to improve the roads condition.

Unsealed Roads

Overlay works to repair damages from the October flood event were recently completed for Lagoon Grass Road, Howards Grass Road, Cusack Road, Booerie Creek Road, Hewitt Road, Swan Bay Road, and Sheehan Road.

Johnston Road

Temporary patching works across slip single lane were recently completed for Johnston Road.

CURRENT WORKS

Funding through the Fixing Country Bridges program has been awarded to replace the damaged structure with a new bridge on Town Road. The steel superstructure bridge is currently being constructed in France with an innovative steel beam that will be launched into place in one piece. A unique type of structure, this bridge will be the first in the region. A general plan of the works is provided below.

The Town Road bridge superstructure will be delivered at the end of June 2023. Civil works are scheduled to begin in April 2023 with a planned completion in September 2023, subject to fine weather. Further updates will be provided throughout the project.
