The Clean Up of the CBD and our flood-affected homes will take some time.
Council is aware there is more waste still needing to be removed from businesses and homes, particularly some two-story buildings in and around the Lismore CBD.
To assist with this task, we ask businesses and property owners who still have flood waste material that needs to be disposed of from upper levels of their buildings to contact Council on 6625 0500.
This will allow us to create a register so that waste removal and collection can be prioritised as subsequent rounds of clean up take place.
It is important that asbestos and hazardous wastes are dealt with by appropriately licensed and qualified people. Please DO NOT dump asbestos or hazardous material, these wastes need to be disposed of in a safe manner. Public Works Advisory is finalising plans for when and how this will take place.
We thank the community for its patience as this work in undertaken.
Council would also like to thank Public Works Advisory for organising the Clean Up.

  • REX flights to resume to keep Lismore moving and connected

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Lismore City Council has been working with REX to resume passenger flights to and from Lismore Regional Airport.

This is to ensure Lismore is connected during this difficult time.

Rex flights will resume on Friday, 11 March with flight ZL6318 departing Sydney at 7.25am via Grafton and arriving in Lismore at 9.40am. It will return direct to Sydney departing at 10am.

The airport is also being used by Government officials, emergency services, volunteers, and those with expertise to assist with the recover and rebuild.

Due to the extensive flood damage, the airport terminal is non-operational, however a temporary passenger area has been established.

REX currently flies to and from Lismore to Sydney on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, however more flights can be scheduled if community demand increases.

Council would like to congratulate REX for its willingness to reinstate flights so quickly following the flood and their support for Lismore and the Northern Rivers Region.

Flights can be booked at www.rex.com.au.

  • WASTE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL STRATEGY

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link
Public Works Advisory (PWA), which is in charge of Lismore’s Clean Up, has developed a waste collection and disposal strategy for the Northern Rivers 2022 Floods based on previous experience in natural disasters and flood recovery works.

Waste collection and disposal is categorised as the following three tasks:
Kerbside Collection Temporary, Regional Waste Facility, Commercial Facility (Disposal)

    KERBSIDE COLLECTION
    • PWA is liaising with ADF, Council and residents to get flood affected residents to move their waste to the kerbside for collection.
    • Increased traffic movements and disruptions during clean-up.
    • ADF will be assisting residents with household waste removal and street clean-up.

    TEMPORARY REGIONAL WASTE FACILITY
    • A temporary regional waste transfer facility has been established at Alstonville.
    • PWA has developed haulage route maps for interstate / non-local waste removal contractors to get from affected areas to the waste transfer facility.
    • SUEZ are managing the waste transfer facility and have established a coordination centre, traffic management and environmental controls at the site.
    • Waste is being received from all areas of the Northern Rivers to ensure local waste disposal facilities are not overloaded.
    • The flood waste is segregated for recovery where possible with SUEZ targeting a 40% recovery and recycling rate, as seen previously in flood recovery operations.

    COMMERCIAL WASTE FACILITY
    • Waste is compacted and loaded into large haulage trucks for disposal at the Veolia Ti Tree Bioenergy Facility located in Willowbank QLD.
    • Ti Tree Bioenergy is a waste disposal facility that utilises “best practice” bioreactor technology to rapidly stabilise waste while capturing environmentally damaging methane and converting it into electricity.
    • Recyclable waste is transferred separately to these facilities for recycling.
  • CHANGE TO TRAFFIC DIVERSION ON BRUXNER/BALLINA RD

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link
The planned diversion of traffic on Ballina Road (Bruxner Highway) between Rotary Drive and Diadem Street is not in place.
Instead, traffic control is in place between Diadem and Nielson Streets to allow travel for one lane at a time along Ballina Road.

Please follow instructions from the Traffic Controllers and expect travel delays.
  • Mobile community facilities offering assistance

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

There are a number of community facilities such as Services Australia and Service NSW available at the Harold Fredericks Carpark located at Rural Lane.

Also available are showers, clothes washing, food, toilets, bottled water and coffee.

The mobile facilities include the Federal Governments Services Australia which has Centrelink, Medicare and Department of Veterans Affairs services.
