  • Stay away from flood affected areas

It is crucial for your own safety and others that no one enters a flood affected area.

The tops of drain manholes have been lifted by flood waters, which means streets with water over them are NOT safe to walk through. For your own safety stay away.

Due to the size of the flood, many buildings may be structurally unsound.

We understand people want to return to their homes and businesses, but we MUST all wait until the SES gives the ALL CLEAR.

Homes and business premises must be inspected by authorities before you return.

There is no sewage in town and no water in parts of the flood-affected areas.

    Please CONSERVE water.

This is no normal flood event, and is region wide. This means Emergency Services are extremely stretched.

Please be patience and for your own safety, DO NOT enter flood affected areas.

Lismore City Council has set up a Flood Fund for public donations to help with disaster recovery and community support.

Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg is encouraging people to make donations to help the Lismore community which has just experienced the worst flood in the city’s history.

“This flood has devastated our city. It is a 1-in-500-year flood event and has led to many hundreds, if not thousands, of people being evacuated with little more than the clothes on their back,” he said.

“It will only be when flood waters start to fall in a few days and people and businesses can return to their homes and CBD that we will discover the extent of the damage.

“One thing for certain is that the road to recovery is going to be very slow and painful.

“Council has set up this fund to help those in most need. I have been overwhelmed already with the generosity of our community and how they have shown up with food and clothing donations for the carload those in our Evacuation Centre.

“This fund will help the City in the next stage of recovery.”

To help with our flood affected community, you can donate to the Lismore Flood Appeal by direct bank transfer.

    The bank details are:

Name: Lismore City Council - Flood Appeal Account

    BSB: 062 565

    Account: 10864633

Residents of Lismore and Nimbin are asked to conserve water and reduce their use of sewage systems.

The current flooding in Lismore and Nimbin, and associated power outages, have affected Council’s water supply and sewage systems.

Residents are asked to conserve water as much as possible as we are currently unable to replenish water reservoirs. Nimbin has approx. 24hours of water supply left based on normal usage rates and residents are asked to conserve water. The Perradenya Estate has a 10-day supply.

Similarly, our sewage treatment plants at South Lismore and East Lismore are not fully operational and have been severely affected by the current events. The East Lismore STP is completely inundated and repairs cannot be undertaken until floodwaters recede. The South Lismore STP is not receiving sewage as power outages mean that sewer pump stations are not operating.

The patience and cooperation of residents is appreciated as we work through these challenges.

Lismore will face one of its most difficult periods in its history over the next few days. I want to encourage you to prioritise your safety, and the safety and wellbeing of your families during this time.

Please don’t go out in the weather if you can avoid it. Many more roads than expected are now unsafe and/or closed.

Please reach out to your neighbours, family and friends to check on their welfare.

Unfortunately, this weather event has been far worse than predicted, with people trapped on roofs across Lismore which is stretching the limited resources of the volunteer organisation. They are trying to provide assistance to people as soon as they can.

Please assist the SES and other Emergency Services by staying at home if you can and ensure you’re complying with all directions from emergency services.

The Lismore City Council website Facebook page has been publishing all relevant safety announcements.

The next few days, weeks and months will be challenging. But we can get through this if we work together and look out for each other.
